PPSI was founded in 1992 by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, to support schools in battling sexual harassment within the school environment (primary school - higher education).
PPSI was assigned to the APS Netherlands, a non-governmental not-for-profit educational organization. As a result of new legislation in 1998, PPSI also focuses on a wider range of undesired behavioural patterns, such as homosexual harassment, bullying, racism and violence.
Over the years, PPSI developed a wide range of products and practical services:
- Manuals for personal integrity counsellors.
- Compilation and distribution of information and ‘good practices’ in the field of school safety through the website: www.ppsi.nl.
- Counselling for school boards and school administrators.
- Meetings for personal integrity counsellors.
PPSI is considered to be the Dutch expert on battling harassment in the school situation.
PPSI is working together with:
- Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.
- School inspectors.
- Representatives of nationwide organisations of school boards, unions for school administrators, teacher unions and unions for parents.
- The Dutch Association of Student Counselling (NVL).
- The National Association of Personal Integrity Counsellors (LVV).
